Room to Grow: A cypress tree is reflected in the shallow water of Lake Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge, located on the Albemarle-Pamlico Peninsula in North Carolina. At 18 miles long and 7 miles wide, Lake Mattamuskeet is the largest natural lake in the state. In spite of its size at 40,100 acres, the lake only averages 2–3 feet in depth.
